I have decided with the upgrade and purchase of Expression Engine 2.0 I want to revamp and redesign my site. I have set up a Google Wave with a few friends to share and collaborate ideas, unfortunately I cannot share the wave on this blog unless you have a wave account so seems pretty pointless. I want to attempt to document the process as an aid to the process and as an educational tool. I would also like to get input from other sources via comments if possible.
In January my job is changing to 'Associate Teaching Fellow - Digital Media', moving me into a bona fide academic post at Winchester School of Art, I am very excited about this move and see it as a real recognition of my academic and technical input I give within the School. These new posts are a combination of Technical and Academic, you might say a 'practical academic'. So I want to take this opportunity to upgrade my site in a number of ways to provide the definitive on-line presence for myself, the site will combine my work and personal activities to build a profile/presence about me. I also want to take the chance to use a 'real world' scenario to get working with a number of web technologies that I often talk about or workshop in and attempt to utilise them in a progressive manner. This is not about using technology for the sake of it but trying to grab technology that I think is advancing the web and even desktop apps.
So the first thing is to work on those most meaningful markup for the content, Andy Clarke in Designing for CSS (DVD) suggests going right back to basics and creates a pages document with comments, I thought this was a rather neat idea as it helps to keep design out of the way, here is a screen shot of my WIP.
Ok off to learn some Expression Engine 2.0 and HTML5
